Freedom Trails at the Crossroads
3rd National Underground Railroad Summit

View of Indianapolis

This year’s conference takes a cue from our host city, Indianapolis, often referred to as the “Crossroads of America” and explores the Underground Railroad as a meeting point and zone of contact where cultures, geographies, regions, races, ethnicities, religious and political ideologies, met and interacted. In addition to exploring past Underground Railroad connections, the conference seeks to explore ways in which present day interest in the story of the Underground Railroad transcends local history in favor of making national connections with global significance.

View of IndianapolisThe four day conference will feature pre and post-conference events, exhibits, speakers, and workshops, hosted at the Hilton- Indianapolis North. Make your reservations early at 1-800-Hiltons to receive the conference rate.

Welcome

The Friends of the Network to Freedom Association, Inc. was formed on the campus of Georgetown College in July 2006 as a privately sponsored 501c3 in support of the work of the National Park Service National Underground Railroad Network to Freedom Program and the over 300 national Underground Railroad sites, programs, and facilities the program represents.

The Friends Association is an “inter-network” in advocacy and support of the National Park Service-National Underground Railroad Network to Freedom Program and our membership-at-large. It is our purpose to generate stewardship and financial support for the continued documentation, commemoration, education, preservation, and research connected to the national and international movement known as the Underground Railroad and its historic resistance to enslavement through flight and escape in the Western Hemisphere.
